It's impossible to get a job or return to school for a single mom who can't find day care.
That's the predicament for Ilona Wickens of 103 Mile.
"I'm a single mom trying to build a future for the two of us," said Wickens.
Since moving to 103 Mile in November, she has been on a waitlist with two day care centres but hasn't heard back from them.
"I don't want to just phone an ad, you never know who it is," she said.
Wickens is admittedly protective of two-year-old Paige and doesn't want to worry about her during the day….
Program coordinator, Carmen Skyers, said the need is quite consistent, especially for infant-toddler spaces and she has heard of people unable to work because of the lack of child care.
"Primarily these are people working outside of traditional hours, nurses or people in the logging industry, people who work shift work or longer hours, this is wherethe need is very critical," said Skyers….
