Educators are excited at the prospect of reaching children earlier in their development as outlined in yesterday's speech from the throne.
Across B.C., 316 more StrongStart centres will open by 2010 bring the total to 400. The province plans to study full-day kindergarten for five-year-olds along with studies to offer parents the choice to enrol children, ages three and four, in full-day kindergarten by 2010 and 2012 respectively.
"It is important that these places provide a child-centred program that will consider the children's age and their development," said Iris Berger, undergrad co-ordinator for UBC's Early Childhood Education program.
