VICTORIA - Gordon Campbell's Liberal government marked the beginning of the 2008 legislative year with a new focus: you….
New Democratic Party leader Carole James called the throne speech a "huge disappointment."
"The premier, basically, in this throne speech said to the public, 'You're on your own. We're not going to do anything,'" James told reporters.
James said she was especially concerned some of the terminology in the speech, such as "sustainability in health care."
"What does sustainability in health care mean? What does it mean for patients?" she asked.
"Will they actually have to pay out of their own pocket? Is [the premier] actually going to ration care and have less care for families? That's what I'm concerned about.
"I heard lots of big goals for the future and absolutely nothing to help families today. It was a huge disappointment."…
Campbell said the government's chosen focus on personal responsibility is meant to get people to understand the problems the province faces, and to do their part to become parts of the solution.
