The Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Board of Education decided to enter into discussions with the District of Maple Ridge and other levels of government about forming a partnership to build and operate a daycare at the proposed elementary school….
The motion, put forward by chair Cheryl Ashlie, suggests taking the park/ school site acquisition process it shares with the city and take it one step further to cover actual building costs.
The proposed daycare would not use class space in the school, but would be a separate, purpose built facility.
However, the proposed school has been included on the district's capital funding wish-list to the province for the last three years, but has not yet received approval from the ministry.
"We need daycares in our schools so we need to start this conversation early," said trustee Dave Rempel….
"Like a mighty glacier, so move the senior levels of government," he said.
