The school district wants to start discussions about adding a daycare to the design of the new school planned for….

The school district is already working with Parks and Leisure to jointly buy land for schools and recreation facilities, but designing the schools with daycares in them takes this concept one step further.

At the school board meeting on Wednesday evening, the board will decide whether it will enter into discussions with the municipality about including a daycare in the design of the future school.

School board chair Cheryl Ashlie put forth the motion, which states that daycares and preschools are a "natural fit" in schools, and "it would be important to pursue the concept of integrated daycare space as early as possible."

In the meantime, SD42 is still waiting for an answer from the Ministry of Education whether daycare space in a school will be excluded from the calculation of empty space, determining how many schools need to be closed in the district.
