The city shouldn't be stampeded into giving away the farm to BC Place

Vancouver city council needs to peel back a few layers before deciding whether to endorse a proposal that promises to deliver a new roof for BC Place in return for development rights….

Significantly, PavCo has asked that it not be required to provide benefits in return for density rights other than covering its own costs of renovations to BC Place. Such a deal would represent an opportunity cost for the city, which normally could expect significant other benefits, such as parks, social housing, community centres or daycare facilities in return for granting such density.

City council must not let such a rushed timetable force them into an ill-considered decision that affects not only the future of the stadium, but the livability of the downtown core, and other developments that are already on the drawing board…
