Part-time workers need daycare

When I first read the news about a proposal for free daycare for city employees, I thought it was a good idea.

But then I started to think about all the parents who try to make a living, working part-time jobs at minimum wage or slightly above minimum. Many of these people need to work two jobs, as they probably only get 20-24 hours a week at one job. Then they have to try to please two employers by being readily available for shifts.

I'm sure it's very difficult to find daycare while you work a split shift.

These employees have no benefits. Most of them do not own their own homes, as they could not even qualify for a mortgage in the Okanagan anyway.

I would suggest the next time city council members go to their local grocery store, or a drive-through restaurant for a morning coffee, ask, "who helps these people with their daycare?"

Changes have to be made to help the truly needy.
