A joint application for funds by the Revelstoke Child Care Society and School District 19 could mean the creation of a community hub at Farwell.
Anne Cooper, superintendent for the Revelstoke School District said there is $12.5 million in funding available to turn unused classrooms into childcare spaces.
"We did child care spaces on our own this summer," said Cooper. "The Child Care Society will apply to the Ministry of Children. Because they are making that application that makes us eligible to apply for hub funding."
The hub funding would help support program and service enhancements in early learning - a real plus, said Cooper, as the district tries not to spend any of its Kindergarten to Grade 12 money on Farwell.
Linda Chell, with the Child Care Society said they are looking to develop more spaces for an infant and toddler program….
Chell said expanding the group centre was the next phase for the Child Care Society.
"This was a great opportunity to access capital expansion dollars," she said.
What's unique about the application, said Cooper, is that Farwell is already a community hub.
"We already have a hub, but we want to make it a real hub," she said.
