Child care gap is appalling

We think it's appalling there is such a huge gap in the day care services offered in our community. Talk to any mother who has tried to find day care in cities like Richmond or Abbotsford in recent years, especially for children under the age of two, and you'll hear the same story.

They will tell you it's extremely hard to find seemingly non-existent child care for children under two, or that they face waiting lists at every licensed centre. …"Affordable, quality child care seems to be on no one's radar right now. In Abbotsford alone, there are nearly 7,000 children (under five) who need child care, but only 1,175 licenced childcare spaces."….

Why is nothing being done? Where are our elected officials -- at all levels? It is a sad state of affairs when, every day in communities like ours, a mother who is trying to better her life by going to school has to rethink her decision because of lack of affordable child care.
