… That's the opinion of the legislature's Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services, which yesterday released its unanimous report to Finance Minister Carole Taylor.

Based on more than 5,800 submissions gathered by the all-party committee during the past two months, the 102-page report will be used by Taylor to construct her February budget….

Deputy chairman Bruce Ralston, NDP MLA for Surrey-Whalley,

The committee also recommended increasing funding to …. spending enough to "eliminate the waitlists for assessments of children and youth with special needs;" …. Although the committee expressed reservations about government spending, Ralston said members also heard that people want B.C.'s surplus to be used where it's needed -- for things such as improving access to child care and housing the homeless.

"I think people are looking for some government spending."
