B.C. government rule changes open more child day care spaces

VICTORIA - The B.C. government says rule changes will open up more child care spaces and provide more staff for day cares in the province.

Child Care Minister Linda Reid says under the changes, family day care operators can now take in a maximum of seven children without having to reserve spaces for infants and school-age children...

The government is also bringing in a new category of child care licensing called Multi-Age Child Care, which allow eight children - up from seven in a home with one person who is certified as an early child educator.

Another change will allow early child educator graduates to work immediately as fully qualified staff for one year while they accumulate experience to get their full licensing...
