… it's only this week that Pendleton was able to make his views known on Finance Minister Jim Flatherty "mini budget" announced last week.
Pendleton, who lives on a subsidence farm without phone or electricity south of Nakusp in the West Kootenay, calls Flatherty mini-budget a "recipe for disaster."
He says bulging surpluses should be directed to municipal and social infrastructure, not tax relief which disproportionately benefits the wealthy and big business….
Pendleton says budget surpasses should also be invested in social infrastructure such as a national child care program, a national pharmacare program, a home care program, social housing or a cut in tuition fees.
"How do we think we will solve the labour shortage? Child care is so expensive that it keeps people out of the workforce. Lack of a universal drug program costs business millions. Fewer and fewer kids can afford to go to university. How is this making us more competitive?"….
