Federal tax cuts wrong-headed

To the editor:

The Conservatives are right--it is my money.

The Conservatives insist the surplus belongs to me and I should get it back. They give it back to me one penny at a time while they ignore the advice I give about what I want it spent on. This Conservative government is being what my Grandmother would call, "Penny wise and pound foolish."

The Conservative government actually did a survey to ask me what I wanted them to do with my money. I said, "Fix my infrastructure, house the homeless, get me a doctor, give my children safe child care, take care of my parents, start a prescription drug plan, support students in their struggle for education and keep my country secure." I did not ask for my penny back. I asked my government to improve my life and the lives of my neighbours with the penny I gave them. I cannot do all of this myself with a penny but my penny, joined with the pennies of all my neighbours, can.

When is the Conservative government going to use my pennies wisely instead of ignoring all the immediate needs of my self and my neigbours for a foolish but flashy rebate of a shiny penny? These pennies, spent properly could do a pound of good for me, my neighbours and my country.

It is my money; now do what I want with it.
