'Disproportionate mayhem' ahead

Editor: The suggested reconfiguration of Langley Secondary School, H. D. Stafford and eight elementary schools will cause disproportionate mayhem to the dollars saved. This is not about student success; this is about cutting costs at communities' expense.

Elementary schools will close and the catchments will increase for the schools remaining. With higher occupancy in these elementary schools, there will be no more room for onsite daycare and resource rooms will once again be the broom closets, storage rooms and any empty space available at the time.

Portables will be common on school fields, replacing open green space. Families will be forced to drive the increased distance, instead of walking to a neighbourhood school. This happens at a time when the Healthy School program is being implemented in B.C….
