Why are we hearing so little about the children of Vancouver being overlooked and short-changed by the civic strike?

My four-year-old grandson has just started kindergarten … and his parents worked hard to ensure his enrolment in after-school day-care at the community centre next door.

The civic strike means there is no after-school daycare.

In their absence I have to drive to Vancouver from White Rock to collect my grandson after school and care for him.

Why can't the city negotiate in good faith with its union to get these facilities open so that Vancouver's children, who have been without libraries and community centres all summer, can get back to normal, healthy routines as their school year progresses?

Once again, it is middle- and lower-income citizens who are feeling the burden of all of this …
