VICTORIA - The minister of state for child care says capital funding for day care spaces will now be available to private sector and licensed family care providers.
Linda Reid says the change in eligibility recognizes the broad range of child care used by families.
Amy Collum, co-chairwoman of the Provincial Child Care Council, says the move increases child care options for families and is an excellent step forward in making more child care spaces available.
Reid says the B.C. government is investing $12.5 million to support the creation of licensed child care spaces.
She says B.C. wants to create an additional 2,000 child care spaces by 2010.
