The Revelstoke Child Care Society is completing the finishing
touches on a second Licensed Group Child Care Center located
at Stepping Stones Child Care Center in the Farwell Building!
The Child Care Society has a very proactive Board who recognize
that an increase in child care spaces was required in our community.
We can't wait for the Federal and Provincial governments to
make quality accessible child care a priority. We are focusing
on a local, "Made in Revelstoke" solution and opening
an additional 20 Licensed Group child care spaces. Stepping
Stones will also be providing parents with after Kindergarten
pickup…...
This expansion is funded through the Child Care Society's reserve
funds, a grant from the School District's Early Learning funding
and building improvements from the School District as our landlord.
There is currently a freeze on Provincial funding for Child
Care Capital Expansion so these spaces are being created with
no provincial child care funds as none are available! It may
be years before these dollars are available and we need the
spaces now.
The Child Care Resource and Referral has also been working with
School District #19 who are adding a Licensed Preschool for
20 children at the Strong Start Center. In addition, there are
three new Family Child Care Providers in the process of becoming
Licensed and one who has just received her license totalling
eight licensed family providers in the near future. Licensed
Family Child Care can care for up to seven children. There are
also eight CCRR Registered Licensed Not Required who care for
two children in addition to their own.
This is a very exciting time for Child Care in our community!
Quality, accessible child care is the foundation to a healthy
economy, a healthy community and quality early learning. … |
