The minister of state for child care says the subsidy for
out-of-school care for six-to 12-year-olds will increase next
month. Linda Reid says the increase will help low-and middle-income
families. For children in out-of-school care for four hours
or less a day, the rate increases to $8.50 a day or $170 a
month, up from $147.56. For children in out-of-school care
for more than four hours a day, the rate increases to $10
a day or $200 a month, up from $173. The Ministry of Children
and Families says about 13,300 children and 10,000 families
will be affected by the increase.
