THE EDITOR:

I have been reading all of the letters about the mom who enjoyed honking to her son to say 'goodbye' when she drops him off at daycare in the mornings.

I believe it is time that we start encouraging working parents…

I would love to say to Kathy Mehrer - good job, good for you, way to go, you sound like a great, hardworking mom who truly loves her child.

As a daycare caregiver I can see that it is hard for parents to leave their children.

There are some other ways other than honking 'bye' that help.

At the daycare where I work we lift up the children to wave bye to their parents out the window.

You can give a hug or a high five at the door. You can leave notes in your child's lunch each day….

Every day when you drop off your child at daycare you can ask your child to make you something and keep a scrapbook of it….

The fact is that our society as a whole doesn't value daycare.

Daycare is a wonderful place where children can learn to interact with their peers, they can gain skills that they will need for later in life. Daycare workers work hard - to pour themselves into the lives of children yet they don't get paid near what a teacher or even a teaching assistant would be paid.

Sometimes I think we need to remember that we were all children once and that as a child there are some things in life that adults need to have a little more patience or flexibility with.
