Honking
is just a way to say 'good-bye'

THE EDITOR:
First let me introduce myself. I am a mother, a Monday to Friday
8 a.m. 'till 5 p.m. working mother.
I drop my son off every day at a daycare and leave him in the
hands of people [thank God for these people], to look after
and entertain him and keep him safe while his Mommy and Daddy
are off at work trying to provide the very best for him.
I have no choice when it comes to work.
First of all, I love my job - it keeps me sane and is something
that I can call my own.
Secondly, it is almost impossible for a young family to survive
in this day and age on a single income. I drop my son off at
his daycare at approximately 7:45 a.m. every day.
After I have said my goodbyes and leave him in the caring hands
of his daycare facility, I then begin my venture off to work.
I like to honk as I am leaving the daycare parking lot.
It's kind of my last signal to my son, 'Mommy is off to work,
have a good day honey, I will be thinking of you.'
My son and I have both become accustomed to this honk. It is
something he looks forward to, and something I feel I need to
do.
Recently I was told by the daycare facility, that as unfortunate
as it is, my honking in the morning would have to stop.
Elderly people who live behind the daycare facility have complained.
They say the honking wakes them up in the morning.
When I heard that, my heart sunk. I thought of all the things
people could complain about in life they chose this.
I am so hoping that these elderly people read this little story
I have prepared for the editor.
I want them to understand that my honking is in no way meant
to offend or disrupt anybody's lives.
I want them to see that my honk is just a simple loving goodbye
to my little boy.
I would also like to remind these elderly people that life is
just too short and goes by way too fast.
One more reminder: the city of Abbotsford's noise bylaw is from
11 p.m. until 7 a.m. I will respect my elders because that's
what my mom has taught me to and so my honking has stopped.
I just hope, elderly people, that even though you complain and
say I disrupt your sleep, please understand how you have disrupted
mine and my son's day. |
