Just over halfway through its six-week run, the Fort St. John
Summer Activities Program is proving a popular draw again this
year.
It's been running at its full capacity of 65 kids each week,
said program manager Lana Mitchell-Neitz, and has had to put
other kids on a waiting list…
She said they've been considering expanding the program, but
so far have run up against a few barriers - including mustering
up the extra funding.
"We're looking at adding extra hours in the a.m. or p.m.,
to better match the working schedule in the community,"
Mitchell-Neitz explained. "We really want to work towards
that."…
One challenge the program faces is finding enough qualified
staff - there's a shortage of child-care workers in the community.
But Mitchell-Neitz said they still managed to get the 12 staff
members needed.
Platt said with the day-care shortage in Fort St. John, the
summer program was the perfect fit this year. |
