Money
all good for Kootenay Family Place

With Kootenay Family Place's budget balanced at just under $3
million, executive director Jim Fisher likes the health of the
organization.
"We have good financial footing," Fisher said.
"We have a very small surplus."
The only dark cloud is with the cuts to childcare, which forced
KFP to raise fees.
"We have 73 families wait-listed and we could open two
facilities tomorrow if there was staff," Fisher said. A
problem that has occurred is finding workers because of poor
salaries which is linked to how many families are able to utilize
childcare.
Fisher doesn't see positive change with that and doesn't feel
that the government "gets it."
Among the highlights of celebrating its 35th Anniversary in
which KFP sponsored Family Fest a few weeks ago, the organization
likes how its programs are working together. Among the programs
offered are Infant Development, Supported Child Development,
Behavioural Support Services, Family Resource, Community Action
Program for Children, Young Parent, and the Castlegar and District
Station Youth Centre.
Money wasn't the only focus as milestones were recognized and
KFP bid farewell to Elaine Whitehead after eight years of service.
Sally Bojechko was recognized for 20 years of service, while
Lynnene Lewis and Connie Rilkoff were recognized for 15 years
and Terri Ferworn for 10. |
