Child-care funding, the pine beetle epidemic and banning
the non-emergency use of jake brakes in city limits -- those
are the main resolutions the City of Kamloops is taking to
the Okanagan Mainline Municipal Association's annual conference
next week.
The annual gathering, being held Wednesday to Friday in
Merritt, will see delegates deal with about 20 resolutions
-- several of them put forward from Kamloops. ...
Child care might not seem like a municipal issue, but it
is when it affects whether more people are willing to move
here to work, he said.
"It's an issue for a growing city. One of the biggest challenges
businesses in our city face is finding people to fill jobs,"
Lake said.
Attracting workers means having affordable housing, transportation
connections and care for their children available, he said.
