UP FRONT Child care rally at noon

Feb 06 2007

A rally will be held at noon today in Court House Square to show support for child care.

Child Care Resource and Referral programs and Child Care operating funding grants are being cut by the provincial government.

Today happens to be the first anniversary of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's swearing in, and it is the Conservative government's cuts to federal day care subsidies that the province blames for the loss of the programs.

Rally organizers are encouraging supporters to wear black or black armbands all day to make the cuts to child care more visible.

Following speeches by three different groups affected by the cuts, the rally will march up Oliver Street as far as Safeway, then return to Court House Square.
