It'll hurt me more

Often when people want to hurt someone, be it a child, a
spouse or a political opponent, they come up with something
that will hurt themselves more than the intended victim.
That appears to be the case with the day of protest planned
by childcare providers for Feb. 13 to get the attention of
federal and provincial politicians, who have cut their funding.
Nothing could be more terrible to childcare providers than
to fail to open their doors to the children and parents who
depend on them.
And yet, that is what they intend to do, even though it
is ethically painful and bad for their already marginal businesses.
You have to wonder, however, if our senior governments will
even notice.
That is where you come in. Write to Prime Minister Stephen
Harper and Premier Gordon Campbell and let them know these
cuts are wrong and that childcare warrants substantially more
funding.
Spell out that this issue will affect how you vote in the
next election. If enough of you do it, they'll notice.
