Re: Childcare agency faces closure with funding cuts, the Observer, Jan. 21.

It's obvious Linda Reid doesn't believe children are our future because she's decided to terminate the valuable Child Care Resource and Referral Program.

Does she even realize how many lives this is going to negatively impact? By closing the CCRR program, costs in the future for children and families will increase. Does Reid even know what this program provides?

Currently as a stay-at-home mom, I utilize CCRR for drop-in programs for my two children.

The variety of drop-in programs provide a positive learning environment for my children and a way to network with other parents. I value their toy- lending library as a way to encourage development through play with my children without having to buy a whole toy store.

I've attended many informative and fun workshops put on by CCRR for parents and professionals. I'm also an Early Childhood Educator and CCRR has been an extremely valuable resource for the daycares, preschools and family daycares in the community.

CCRR supports childcare facilities by offering a variety of developmentally appropriate toys and theme boxes to lend out. CCRR is beneficial to the development of young children.

If Reid cuts this program, the government will be spending more money in the future. Once the program is closed, a domino effect will occur and as younger generations become older, there will be more problems that will need to be remedied by spending even more money.
