Daycare fees may increase

I have been operating a family daycare in Langley for over 16 years. The daycares as well as parents have always depended on the Child Care Resource and Referral program to link up with each other.

We have just learned that this valuable program will be closing permanently. The majority of my clients find me through this service.

They keep a list of licensed day cares in the area, as well as what openings we have in different age categories. I have taken many courses through them to update my knowledge on child care. Parents find them useful in so many areas.

With this program closing, it is going to make it much harder and stressful on parents to find quality daycare. For the daycares throughout B.C. we will now have to advertise (which will only increase our operating costs), at the same time that the government has decreased our daycare grants.

I try to keep my fees down to help out the younger families but it is getting harder when our grants are cut back and now the referral programs are eliminated.

Daycares may have to increase their fees when this grant is eliminated and the referrals programs are taken away. They need to do something now.
