Removing barriers key to adult learning

.... The select standing committee on education travelled to Prince George, pens poised, listening intently to concerns voiced by several representatives from area organizations. More than a dozen presentations were heard during a four-hour session by a panel of MLAs, including three former school board trustees.

The event took place at the Native Friendship Centre.

[Rebecca ]Beuschel of Quesnel works in the College of New Caledonia region, which covers a wide area, from Burns Lake to Valemount and Mackenzie to Quesnel.

She spoke of both the hard physical and emotional journey required for adult learners to make their difficulties known.

"Adult learners face so many challenges...transportation, food, child care, finances, remote and rural lifestyles and health are just some of the areas that present regular barriers for adult learners," she said.
