Poor support

EXCERPT
Province columnist Christy Clark says the government doesn't
make a very good parent. I agree.
Why then does the government not provide better support
for true parents in parenting?
Many parents in B.C. can't provide adequately for their
children because they are poor.
By not working to ensure that families have the resources
they need (adequate housing, affordable child care, access
to nutritious food and complete healthcare/support services),
the government creates situations in which it must become
a "parent." ...
As a social worker and a citizen, I want to know whether
so much of that work would be necessary if B.C. families were
better supported in caring for their children.
Why are social assistance rates well below the poverty line
and why is housing so inaccessible to many? What is the government
doing to prevent the reality of kids in care that is providing
Clark with her success stories?
That's the headline I'm waiting for.
