EXCERPT

After a summer of wandering in the wilderness, a Vancouver preschool has finally found a home....

The Vancouver Child Studies Centre charges $345 per student each month-a typical fee for a Vancouver preschool-and Rolfsen noted that the federal childcare plan offers less than a third of that amount. Many Canadian preschool teachers are forced to live on substandard wages. "I'm not at all happy with the Conservatives and their $100-a-month plan," she said. "We'd all make a lot more money if we had jobs guarding warehouses and not caring for people's children."...

The church's top floor is already home to the Dragons and Butterflies preschool, and Slater echoed Rolfsen's concerns about a lack of government childcare funding. "We know of the desperate need for preschools in our community. Families and children don't exist in a vacuum, and the kind of people we want children to grow in to requires help from the entire community."
