DAWSON CREEK - A lack of available child care is becoming
an increasingly significant issue here, local child-care staff
say.
"I've had eight families with infants (in recent weeks)
phone me that I cannot place," said Pam Sawers, co-ordinator
of the local child care and referral program.
Many parents are becoming frantic because there are few
or no alternatives, she said.
Erin Oliver, who co-ordinates Dawson Creek's child-care
programs, said many people are not going into day care as
a career any more.
"Most seem to be going after the higher wages," she said.
