An influx of young families into Langley neighbourhoods
is putting pressure on provincially-funded child care, says
a Langley Family Services manager, leaving the community "desperate
for child care."
"We don't have the same rate of openings than we do have
children coming into the area," said Janet Shaw, program manager
of LFS's Child Care Resource and Referral Program.
The program, run by the Langley family agency and funded
by the provincial government, is intended to help families
find affordable child care for their children and also offer
supplemental income to adults providing the care.
But with only a couple of new child care providers coming
forward recently, Langley is facing a huge child care shortage,
Shaw said....
