On Monday, the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human
Resources and Social Development, announced the first Universal
Child Care Benefit cheques are being printed and families
should receive their cheques before the end of July...
The Universal Child Care Benefit will be paid to families
in monthly instalments of $100 per child for children under
six.
As a result of the Universal Child Care Benefit, additional
revenues of approximately $297 million per year will go to
families in British Columbia on behalf of about 248,000 children
under the age of six...
The Universal Child Care Benefit is part of the Government
of Canada's Universal Child Care Plan to provide parents with
choice, support and spaces.
Beginning in 2007, the Government of Canada will also spend
$250 million each year to create up to 25,000 new child care
spaces annually.
