Why is this budget so acceptable?

It is amazing how most of the reaction to Prime Minister Stephen Harper's first budget seems quite positive....

So perhaps it is not surprising that Harper values fighters more than pre-school children.

How much good will $1,200 a year do for the single Mom? How much will it matter to the two-income couple complete with nanny? Child care is now relegated to the dumpster....

And like other tax cuts our Prime Minister has introduced, there is more help here for the wealthier segment of the population than those young families our society so badly needs.

This was a budget carefully prepared for the next election -- whenever that may be. And with opposition to the mission in Afghanistan growing rapidly, there may be an election sooner than we think -- or wish.
