Linda Reid, the B.C. minister responsible for child care,
is vowing to fight for "the babies in my province" today as
she travels to Ottawa to argue for a fair share of national
daycare spending with her federal and provincial counterparts.
B.C. Liberals have been criticized for doing little to save
the $5-billion child-care program of the former federal Liberal
government.
B.C.'s share of that plan would have been $633 million over
five years....
Reid said B.C. wants its fair share of the $250 million,
possibly as much as $30 million.
"My challenge is to get the very best outcome for the babies
in my province," she said, promising to be "relentless" on
the issue.
But NDP critic Diane Thorne said B.C. took a "too little,
too late" approach to fighting to keep the Liberal deal.
