I was overjoyed to see Prime Minister Stephen Harper's first budget include the $1,200 he promised for families with young children under the age of six. Of course, I now realize that after tax deductions this is little more than $750 annually. Could someone try to explain to me just what it is about this policy that actually constitutes a plan? I pay $25 daily for doggy daycare. What kind of childcare does Harper expect young parents to afford for less than $4 a day? Is this some kind of joke? Or under this new Conservative government, is it really a dog's life?
