Funding childcare will bring countless rewards

Why is childcare in Canada such a divisive issue? Why cannot our government fund both the childcare agreements signed with the provinces last year and offer the $1,200 baby bonus, too? We certainly have enough money to do both. Stephen Harper's plan to do away with the federal agreements with the provinces to create more childcare space is short-sighted. Childcare advocates have been fighting to help people work and study for decades, and provide safe, healthy child care options for our nation's children. Working parents are the fuel of our economy and when the labour shortage of skilled workers becomes critical in a few short years Harper will only have himself to blame.
