... Penticton and District Community Resources Society executive
director Kim Lyster is also critical of the Conservatives
because of their child-care approach.
The Conservatives will pay families $1,200 annually for
each child under the age of six.
But that does not go enough, said Lyster.
The Conservatives continue to refuse the need for a national
child care program and their approach is only a band-aid,
she said.
"This tiny allowance, which will be taxed, does not begin
to meet the real costs of child care, particularly licenced,
community-based programs," she said.
The Conservatives should maintain the momentum started by
the former Liberal government, she said.
"It was a good start on building a comprehensive program.
As it is, progress in B.C. may be halted with the funding
decisions."
