The daycare debate

Chelsea, Que. -- Speaking as an upper-middle class single mom, who, 18 years ago, when she was on the low end of the income scale, had her daughter in a regulated, not-for-profit, community-run daycare in Manitoba, I can say unequivocally that my economic success today is due in no small part to my ability to access that service then.

Had I not been able to find stimulating, reliable, healthy and safe child care, I would have had to step out of the work force. It would have taken me years to recover. I am living proof that investing in child care constitutes wise use of public resources to support work-force productivity and wealth creation.
