Letter to Editor -- Daycare is best if mum is stressed out

Rarely has an article incensed me as much as your Aug. 29 report "Stay-at-home moms' juggling act is a work in progress," which describes how two women are juggling work and family roles.

Why is it these women are keeping their children at home while they run companies? So they can take conference calls and throw cookies at the kids all at the same time?

Just who is well-served by arrangements designed to avoid daycare wherever possible?

I would suggest children deserve quality early-childhood education and that this is possible in daycare programs as well as in the home.

Let's not pretend that it is easy or even realistic for mothers to work from home with small children, or that children are better off at home if mum is exhausted and constantly on the phone.
